Honoring Memorial Day While Enjoying Time with Loved Ones
As Memorial Day approaches, our hearts turn to those who have sacrificed so much for our nation. It’s a time of reflection, remembrance and gratitude. While you’re gathering with friends and family to mark the occasion this Memorial Day – and perhaps to also celebrate the unofficial start of summer – please also take a moment to honor and remember those who gave it all in the name of freedom.
If you are bringing together your friends and family this Memorial Day weekend, we’ve put together a handful of snacking recipes we know will delight and impress. Enjoy and have a wonderful Memorial Day!
Red, White and Blue Fruit Salad
This recipe is insanely easy and can be SUPER cute. All you need are sliced strawberries, sliced bananas, blueberries and – if you have a Publix nearby – our Vanilla Cream Cheese Fruit Dip. If you don’t have a Publix, whipped cream or Greek yogurt also works. You can toss the fruit together, but we love arranging it to look like Old Glory with the dip on the side.
American Flag Caprese Skewers
To make these, you’ll need cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, fresh basil leaves, a balsamic glaze and toothpicks. Create small skewers on toothpicks (one tomato, one mozzarella, one basil leaf) and then arrange the skewers on a platter in the design of an American flag. Drizzle the glaze and enjoy!
Mini Pimento Cheese Balls
These might not be packed with patriotic red, white and blue, but they are packed with flavor! These cheese balls are great for grazing and make a perfect complement to an open house or picnic: https://www.tasteofthesouthdips.com/tips-of-the-south/pimento-cheese-balls.
Fried Pickle and Ranch Dip Veggie Pizza
This recipe is perfect for parties! You’ll want to leave it inside to stay cool, but it’s so easy to make and everyone loves it. By using a crescent roll dough sheet and our Fried Pickle and Ranch Dip, you can make this new twist on a classic in less than an hour: https://www.tasteofthesouthdips.com/tips-of-the-south/pickle-dip-veggie-pizza.
Patriotic Popsicles
Here’s another easy one, especially for the kids. You’ll need popsicle molds, which you can find at most big box stores, as well as popsicle sticks. Then you fill the molds one-third of the way with sliced strawberries, add coconut water or lemonade until the mold is two-thirds full, then top it with blueberries and freeze!
